The design for Sinar Mas Centre consists of a 320-meter office high-rise, a hotel tower, and a series of smaller scale mixed-use buildings. The complex is the centerpiece of a neighborhood redevelopment plan that connects directly to a new park along Shanghai’s Huangpu River. The main tower features curved surfaces that are accentuated by perforated metal light shelves that enhance the building’s environmental performance.
In designing the complex, SOM employed a holistic philosophy that considers the site, energy, materials, interior environment, and natural resources. The project calls for a host of sustainable features, including advanced building control systems, daylighting, waste reduction principles, thermal storage, and climatically responsive planning. The plan encompasses a practical approach to sustainable design that provides the highest value in terms of initial and operational costs, energy efficiency, and environmental impact.
