SOM provided full interior design services for the new 80,000-square-foot headquarters of this national non-profit group. Located in a renovated 1950s modernist building, the project was designed to give the organization a visible public presence in the city for the first time. Ground-floor facilities include a lecture/exhibit hall, cyber-action center, coffee bar, and media/broadcasting center. SOM worked in concert with the organization’s branding effort to help create a strong sense of identity while remaining within a carefully controlled budget.

SOM developed efficient workplace standards for the project. All open workstations face floor-to-ceiling windows which provide maximum natural light. Private offices are located next to the secondary perimeter wall and enclosed in floor-to-ceiling interior glass, maintaining maximum natural light and visual communication between senior staff members and their teams. Interaction is encouraged by an “activity node” created by grouping the pantry, open team area, and conference room.

SOM worked closely with the base building architect to develop new curtain wall modules and to design core elements. SOM developed environmental graphics including a complete interior and exterior signage package with donor walls and recognition plaques. The firm also helped the client’s leasing agents develop marketing materials for the remaining 25,000 square feet available for lease.
