In 1960, SOM designed this modernist classic as the world headquarters for the Pepsi-Cola Company. The pristine aluminum and glass structure contains approximately 142,500 gross square feet of office space that is organized against an offset core. The flexible building plan efficiently accommodates several clearly defined functions, both spatially and structurally.
SOM returned to the building in 2016 to design the first major interior intervention in over 50 years. The result is a contemporary office space for a new tenant that echoes the timeless ethos of the architectural design. The workspace is arranged to respond to the building’s geometry and module, capitalizing on daylight and views. Materials are minimal and their application purposeful, reflecting on the original building’s economy of finish.
