A principal in SOM’s New York studio, Peter Lefkovits is a designer with significant experience leading projects throughout the United States and across Asia. Peter’s portfolio encompasses mixed-use developments, residential and hospitality projects, commercial office buildings, and airport terminals.
Peter has developed deep expertise in the aviation sector, and has led the design and implementation of several of SOM’s award-winning airport terminals, from the new terminal at Kansas City International Airport to Terminal 2 at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru. The conceptual framework for these complex facilities grew out of Peter’s interest in the synthesis of architecture, structure, and environmental design—an approach which underlies all of his work.
I’m inspired by our collaborative process that brings together architects, engineers, planners, and other specialists, as well as our clients. Designing in concert, we’re able to draw on our collective intelligence to create buildings that live in harmony with their environment.
Peter has played a significant role in the development of SOM’s practice in India. He has designed numerous projects in the country, including the Carmichael Residences and the Godrej BKC commercial building, both in Mumbai. In this work, his driving goals are to contribute meaningfully to the rich architectural culture of India and to forge close professional relationships with clients in the region. Peter’s work is shaped by an interest in regional building traditions, as well as an attention to local environmental and social issues.
