Breakthrough technologies are shifting our travel behaviors, calling for new urban design concepts to accommodate these changes. On Thursday, July 23rd, Associate Director Chris Hall will join City Tech Collaborative and mobility and technology experts for a panel discussion and design exploration focused on Chicago street typologies.
Using Chicago as a case study, City Tech Collaborative and SOM gathered private and public sector mobility and technology experts to collaboratively develop “Chicago’s Streets of the Future,” a thought piece and design exercise that envisions how our streets could evolve in the next 10 to 30 years to accommodate new mobility modes, shifting travel behaviors, and emerging technologies. The results are prototypical designs and strategies that cities can adopt while maintaining the integrity, functionality, and expectations of the city’s character.
Hall and other panelists will discuss the results of “Chicago’s Streets of the Future” design exploration and share insights on developing considerations related to COVID-19. Joining Hall on the panel will be: Lubka Benak, Project Director, Chicago Department of Transportation; Eric Bergstrom, Senior VP, HBK Engineering; Kate Calabra, Manager, Partnership Developments, City Solutions, City Tech Collaborative; and Dr. Dennis Ong, Head of C-V2X, Verizon. Lindsay Nieman, Associate Editor of the American Planning Association’s Planning Magazine, will moderate the panel.
