SOM Mechanical Engineer Stephen Ray has been named as a winner in the 2017 40 Under 40 Awards by Consulting-Specifying Engineer magazine. Now in its tenth year, the 40 Under 40 Awards program recognizes outstanding talent working in an array of disciplines within engineering. Winners are selected for their dedication to the profession, a penchant for leadership, the drive to make a difference in their industries and communities, and determination to excel.
Based in SOM’s Chicago office, Ray is an expert in sustainability and high performance design, and works closely with designers across disciplines to ensure that the firm’s projects meet the highest standards of performance and energy use. Ray has published 27 academic peer-reviewed articles on diverse subjects, including internal air quality, sustainability, and high performance skyscraper design.
Outside of his work at SOM, Ray serves as Assistant Professor of Physics and Engineering and as Director of Sustainability at North Park University in Chicago; and as a board member of North Lawndale College Prep High School on Chicago’s West Side.
In 2016, SOM’s Rebecca Delaney was named to the 40 Under 40 Awards.
