State Department Breaks Ground on New U.S. Embassy in Windhoek, Namibia

On July 23rd, 2020, a groundbreaking ceremony took place at the U.S. Department of State’s new U.S. Embassy campus in Windhoek, Namibia. The U.S. Ambassador to Windhoek Lisa A. Johnson; Deputy Foreign Minister, Honorable Jenelly Matundu; and Mayor of Windhoek, Her Worship Fransina Kahungu, led the ceremony in a reflection of friendship and bilateral partnership between Namibia and the United States.

The new embassy will provide a state-of-the-art, modern, and resilient platform for U.S. diplomacy in Namibia. SOM is the design architect for the project and B.L. Harbert International of Birmingham, Alabama is the construction contractor. The project is expected to be completed in 2023.
