On Saturday, April 30th, a team of 30 employees from SOM’s Chicago office participated in National Rebuilding Day. Led by the Metro Chicago chapter of Rebuilding Together, an organization dedicated to improving the homes of those in need across the United States, the multidisciplinary group volunteered in the city’s Austin neighborhood, located on the West Side of Chicago.
Working with the homeowners, the SOM team assessed needs and conducted a series of improvements to the home. They installed new handrails to meet current safety standards, replaced the kitchen floor, installed new bathroom vanities, repainted all communal areas, landscaped the front and back yards, repaired a broken fence, and with the assistance of volunteer electricians and plumbers, updated aging electrical systems and plumbing throughout.
More than 3,500 volunteers participated in projects at 90 homes in Chicago on National Rebuilding Day. This marks SOM’s eighth year sponsoring a home for Rebuilding Together.
