On Saturday, April 22nd, representatives from the SOM Women’s Initiative (SOMWI) participated in the New York Cares Day spring event. The SOM team, which also included friends and family members, spent the day at Roberto Clemente Community Garden in the Bronx. The team helped rejuvenate the public space by removing branches, twigs, weeds, and litter from the garden. Additionally, team members helped build a raised planter to make the garden more accessible for elderly residents.
Organized “to celebrate the power of volunteerism,” New York Cares Day Spring brings individuals and groups together for service projects in parks and community gardens across the five boroughs. More than 4,000 volunteers were expected to participate this year.
The SOM Women’s Initiative, established in 2011, positions SOM as a leader in the design community by challenging barriers to gender equity and by fostering the retention and growth of women. SOMWI seeks to create an excellent, innovative, and sustainable workplace that reflects the firm’s commitment to enhancing the built environment.
