On the evening of June 2, 2015, SOM Structural and Seismic Engineering Partner Mark Sarkisian received the 2015 H.J. Brunnier Lifetime Achievement Award from the Structural Engineers Association of Northern California (SEAONC). This honor recognizes his more than 30 years of outstanding achievement in structural engineering. Sarkisian’s career has focused on innovative structural engineering solutions, highlights of which include eight U.S. patents for high-performance seismic structural mechanisms and the design of more than 100 recognized buildings, such as the U.S. Embassy complex in Beijing, Chicago’s NBC Tower, Cathedral of Christ the Light in Oakland, California, Jin Mao Tower in Shanghai, and Al Hamra Tower in Kuwait City.
Peter Lee, SOM Associate Director and Senior Structural Engineer, was elevated to the grade of SEAONC Fellow in recognition of his outstanding accomplishments in the field of structural engineering, as well as his service to the 85-year-old association. Since joining the firm in 1980, Peter has been a leader in the design and construction of performance-based, seismically isolated structures for a variety of projects, including the Cathedral of Christ the Light, the International Terminal at San Francisco International Airport, and the San Bernardino Justice Center.
Sarkisian and Lee were bestowed these honors at SEAONC’s annual business meeting, which was held at The City Club in San Francisco. Association Members, Honorary Members, Fellows and Life-Members were in attendance.
