New York-based Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) has released renderings of a revised plan to renovate the James A. Farley Post Office into a train station, as part of the larger redevelopment of the Penn Station complex.
The new Daniel Patrick Moynihan Train Hall will convert McKim, Mead & White’s Beaux-Arts edifice from 1913 into a contemporary transportation facility that will increase the station’s concourse space by an estimated 50 percent, while reducing congestion for Amtrak, Long Island Rail Road, and New Jersey Transit riders.
