Two SOM research projects have been named finalists in the 2022 Fast Company Innovation by Design Awards: Urban Sequoia and SPLAM Timber Pavilion. Chosen by Fast Company editors, alongside an expert jury of design professionals, selected projects represent an alternative to the “What’s Next?” design strategy, trading short-term solutions for long-term, considered thinking.

Urban Sequoia is a finalist in the Spaces and Places category and envisions cities that capture carbon instead of producing it.

SPLAM Timber Pavilion, a finalist in the Sustainability category, is a proof-of-concept for a new robotically fabricated timber framing system called Spatial Laminated Timber.
