SOM is a finalist across 4 categories in this year’s AIA Chicago Design Excellence Awards! All three projects are local to Illinois, with an emphasis on providing healthier spaces.
Recognized by its “breathing brace” and distinct terraced, stepped facade 800 Fulton Market provides an outdoor amenity for tenants. The new mixed-use office building is a finalist in the Distinguishes Building Category in the Architecture – Large classification.
The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Campus Instructional Facility (CIF) is a the new learning hub located on the engineering quad of UIUC. Students from all over campus come to enjoy beautiful views of the quad, experience highly flexible, vibrant spaces made possible by 60ft beams, and classrooms that accommodate a wide variety of learning. The new CIF is a finalist in both the Distinguished Building (Architecture Medium) and the Decarbonization Award.
After decades in Daniel Burnham’s iconic railway exchange, the SOM design team took on a redesign of our Chicago studio, with darker and lighter tones centered towards various lighting and areas of focus. With clear lines of sight, a ribbon of display screens and a green wall, the new studio and office space is all about sharing experiences of design and experimentation. The project is a finalist in the Distinguished Building – (Interior Architecture – Medium) award.
