SOM Leads Walking Tours for Architecture + the City Festival in San Francisco

SOM’s Steven Sobel and Alan Lewis will each lead walking tours as part of the 2019 Architecture + the City Festival in San Francisco. During the event— “Diversified Spaces: A POPOS Walking Tour”—participants will visit four privately-owned public open spaces (POPOS) to discuss the history, design, and impact of these buildings.

With the theme of “We the City,” the 16th annual festival celebrates and explores how cultural diversity and connectivity shape San Francisco’s built environment. The program is co-presented by AIASF and the Center for Architecture and Design, and runs the entire month of September.

Steven Sobel is a Managing Director with extensive experience working on new construction and renovation projects throughout the United States and Asia. He will lead a tour of 101 Second Street—a 26-story office space that blurs the boundaries between public and private with a ground-floor atrium that functions as an urban room and daylight-filled art pavilion.

Alan Lewis is a Design Director at SOM with a focus on improving the public realm and urban open space environments. He will lead participants on a tour of 555 Market Street.
