Architects and members of the public will be treated to an in-depth look at the Strand Theater on May 21, 2015, in anticipation of the first public performance at the American Conservatory Theater’s new venue on June 3. The walkthrough is organized by the Historic Resources Committee of the American Institute of Architects’ San Francisco chapter. It will allow participants to learn more about the 1917 building’s original design and colorful ensuing history, and to study the SOM-led renovation’s conservation strategies and contemporary interventions. SOM Design Director Michael Duncan will guide the tour with counterparts at Page & Turnbull, which served as preservation architect on the project, as well as A.C.T. representatives and others.
