For decades, SOM’s structural engineering practice has redefined urban landscapes worldwide. From the John Hancock Center (currently known as 875 North Michigan Avenue) in Chicago to the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the firm’s groundbreaking approach to structural engineering has changed the face of architecture.
Reflecting this ongoing story, a selection of models highlighting the structural engineering of several SOM-designed projects will be on display together in an exhibition at M:AI Museum of Architecture and Engineering NRW in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. Titled “Visionaries and Everyday Heroes: Engineers – Build – Future,” the exhibition features past and current buildings, inventions, and innovators.?
Free and open to the public, the exhibition is presented in cooperation with the Oskar von Miller Forum in Munich. It runs from June 17 to July 1. ?
