SOM Celebrates 50 Years in Washington, D.C.

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of SOM’s Washington, D.C. office, the Partners of SOM and Melissa Chiu, Director of the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, hosted a cocktail reception the evening of Wednesday, October 25th.

Overlooking the Washington National Mall, guests—including clients, consultants, press, friends of the firm, and SOM leadership and staff—gathered in the iconic Sculpture Garden of the SOM-designed Hirshhorn Museum to honor this milestone.

The party commemorated SOM’s legacy within the city, which ranges from major civic initiatives such as the National Mall and Constitution Gardens, to the main terminal expansion of Washington Dulles International Airport, to the upcoming National Museum of the United States Army, to name a few of many notable projects.

Reflecting on the event, Kristopher Takács, Director in SOM’s D.C. office, stated, “Washington continues its unprecedented transformation—by design—into a world-class, 21st-century city. For fifty years, SOM has been at the vanguard of this change. We were delighted to celebrate this legacy and our future commitment to making Washington a truly exceptional place for the next generation.”
