On Thursday, April 25th, Associate Director Preetam Biswas will lead a discussion at Structures Congress 2019 in Orlando, Florida. The four-day event is hosted by the Structural Engineering Institute and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE-SEI).
The discussion will focus on “Design and Performance of Tall Building Structures for Wind Effects,” an upcoming manual of practice developed by the ASCE-SEI’s Task Committee on Design and Performance of Tall Buildings for Wind. The core committee members developing the manual include structural engineers from six of the leading structural engineering firms designing tall buildings worldwide, namely, SOM, Thornton Tomasetti, Arup, LERA, Magnusson Klemencic Associates, and WSP, along with wind engineers from two of the leading wind engineering firms, RWDI and CPP.
In the 90-minute session, Biswas and other core committee members will discuss the contents of the comprehensive document as well as the objectives behind its publication. Following the panel, attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback on the manual. The committee members will take this feedback into account as they prepare the final version of the manual, scheduled for publication at the end of 2019.
