On September 20, the Chicago Architecture Center hosted a panel discussion on the design of Satellite One at O’Hare International Airport. The program, “Taking Flight: Transforming O’Hare for Today’s Traveler,” invited lead architects from the SOM-led team to join Related Midwest’s Executive Vice President and panel moderator Ann Thompson to discuss the passenger experience envisioned for the new concourse.
Panelists included SOM Design Principal Ryan Culligan, Barrett Peterson of Ross Barney Architects, and JGMA’s Juan Gabriel Moreno, who spoke about the design, which was also developed with Arup. The event kicked off with a video introduction by Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson followed by a presentation, discussion, and a Q&A with attendees.
Panelists touched on topics ranging from the architectural relationship between Satellite One and the existing Helmut Jahn-designed Concourse C to trends in aviation and sustainability advancements in airport design. See the full event recording below.
