Marla Gayle has been selected to serve on the jury for Reimagining Brooklyn Bridge, an international design competition that aims to rethink the Brooklyn Bridge’s iconic walkway. Launched by the New York City Council and the Van Alen Institute, the program seeks solutions that address 21st-century user needs and set a standard for how we consider aging transportation infrastructure across the city.
Gayle, a Managing Director in SOM’s New York office, has extensive experience in the programming, planning, and management of large-scale transportation and infrastructure projects around the world, including state-of-the-art airports, light and heavy rail systems, and ferry terminals. She will serve on the jury with: Peg Breen, Andrew Brown, Jonathan Gardenhire, Danny Harris, Helen Ho, Isabella Joseph, Regina Myer, and Amy Plitt.
Reimagining Brooklyn Bridge calls for creative, unconventional designs that respect and enhance the bridge’s landmark status, think inclusively about mobility and access, and accommodate commuters, visitors, and vendors. The competition is open to all, and proposals must be submitted by Sunday, April 5.
