Manhattan West Wins ULI NY Excellence in Urban Open Space Award

Manhattan West

Decades in the making, Manhattan West is one of the largest and most complex developments in recent history in New York City—a feat that has earned it the Excellence in Urban Open Space award from the Urban Land Institute of New York. The awards program recognizes outstanding development projects across New York State that best exemplify ULI’s mission to influence, improve, and transform the places where we live, work, and play.

Under the leadership of Brookfield Properties and in collaboration with Field Operations, the project transforms a previously underdeveloped site into a vibrant, 27/4 mixed-use neighborhood, featuring 2.6 acres of open space, offices, residences, hospitality, and retail—all built above active rail tracks.

Anchored around public open space, Manhattan West introduces a much-needed amenity in Midtown West, an area of the city with limited green space, all while increasing walkability and connectivity in the west-bound expansion of the Midtown urban fabric. For the first time, pedestrians can now walk seamlessly from some of Manhattan’s most heavily used civic spaces, from Moynihan Train Hall through Manhattan West to the High Line—with just a single street crossing.
