Loyola Marymount University School of Film and Television Wins IIDA Calibre Design Award

Loyola Marymount University’s (LMU) School of Film and Television (SFTV) has been named a winner in the 31st annual Calibre Design Awards. The program, hosted by the Southern California chapter of the International Interior Design Association (IIDA), celebrates outstanding interior design and interior architecture, as well as project teams and individuals that exceed industry expectations.

The SFTV is one of the fastest growing departments at LMU, with new academic programs and an increasing student body and faculty. To accommodate this growth, LMU acquired 50,000 square feet of off-campus space in the Playa Vista neighborhood. SOM’s design for the space adds 35,000 square feet to the school’s screenwriting and production graduate programs, and 15,000 square feet for other LMU academic programs.

Given SFTV’s need for multi-use and informal collaboration spaces, the building and interiors act as a backdrop for students producing projects that require a variety of settings. The design supports classroom learning, hands-on work, and communal spaces that foster thought, creative discourse, and experimentation.
