With a handful of luxury towers rising on West 57th Street, the Midtown thoroughfare was beginning to feel a bit lopsided. Not anymore. The Observer reports that the long-planned 57-story tower at 250 East 57th Street is ready to rise from the ground. First announced in 2006, the crazy tapering tower, designed by Roger Duffy of SOM, saw starts and stops over the last six years, but new construction permits have been filed, which means we will be on full construction watch in 2013. SOM is still the architect on the 715-foot-tall tower, developed by World Wide Group, but some design changes will be made. The exterior will be “more curvaceous” and less angular, and there will be 270 apartments instead of 320.
