SOM’s design for the new Long Beach Civic Center received two honors at the 2016 P3 Awards?: Gold for Best Social Infrastructure Project and the Grand Prix Award. The third annual awards ceremony was held on Thursday, October 27th ?at the Cosmopolitan hotel in Las Vegas, where industry leaders met to recognize outstanding achievements in public-private partnership (P3) projects across the Americas. This year’s jury was composed of over 80 professionals representing both the public and private sectors.
Working with Plenary-Edgemoor Civic Partners, a partnership of Plenary Investment Group and Edgemoor Infrastructure & Real Estate, SOM created a master plan and design for the redevelopment of 22 acres in downtown Long Beach, California. The project includes a 270,000-square-foot City Hall, a 93,500-square-foot Main Library, a 232,000-square-foot Port Headquarters, and the reactivation of historic Lincoln Park. The plan also develops design guidelines for 800 residential units and 50,000 square feet of commercial development and integrates the city grid with the regional bike network, buses, and the Metro Blue Line.
