SOM Design Partner Leo Chow will take part in the CNU 25.Seattle conference, a five-day event hosted by the Congress for the New Urbanism. The conference will take place from May 2-6 at a variety of venues in downtown Seattle, including the Seattle Art Museum, Benaroya Hall, and the Moore Theater.
On Friday, May 5th, Chow will speak in a session titled “Retrofitting Water.” He and other speakers will explore how climate change, groundwater depletion, combined sewer overflows, and water quality issues are challenging communities around the world, and how a number of suburban retrofits offer potential lessons for urbanists. The session will start with an overview of innovative case studies and then dive deeply into specific examples, including the retrofit of the 116-acre Parkmerced apartment complex outside of San Francisco, which is reversing decades of aquifer depletion.
