Kansas City International Airport, designed to embody the region’s rich culture while reimagining inclusivity and accessibility for air travel, has received several awards that recognize its architecture and construction. In collaboration with design-builder Clark | Weitz | Clarkson (CWC), the airport was named “Project of the Year” by the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) Mid-Atlantic Region, which celebrates exceptional design-build projects.
The airport also received a citation from the AIA Kansas City Design Excellence Awards, which recognizes the project’s architecture made possible through a collaboration with DRAW Architecture + Urban Design, HJM Architects, and Wellner Architects.
With a design deeply informed by residents throughout Kansas City, the airport also ranked number three in the Large Airport category in overall customer satisfaction among North American airports in the 2024 J.D. Power North America Airport Satisfaction Study. The study, based on more than 20,000 completed surveys, measures overall traveler satisfaction by examining six factors (in order of importance): 1) Terminal facilities, 2) Airport arrival/departure, 3) Baggage claim, 4) Security check, 5) Check-in/baggage check, 6) Food, beverage, and retail.
