In May 2016, SOM Structural and Seismic Engineering Partner Mark Sarkisian lectured in Paris and Madrid on the evolution of new ideas in architecture and engineering.
The first lecture, titled “The Emergence of New Architecture,” was delivered at the École d’Architecture de la Ville et des Territoires à Marne-la-Vallée, one of the premier architecture schools in France. There, Sarkisian discussed the evolution of new engineering ideas and the challenges of building safe structures that consider performance and environmental impact.
The second set of lectures, titled “A New Architecture Created by Structure,” was delivered in Madrid at the University of San Pablo and the University of Alcalá. Sarkisian spoke about new, holistic design concepts for architecture that counters challenges brought on by climate change and the depletion of natural resources.
