Geffen Hall at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) has been awarded LEED® Platinum certification. LEED®, or Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design, certification is an official recognition of a project’s compliance with sustainability standards created and maintained by the U.S. Green Building Council. The program is administered by Green Business Certification Inc., with LEED® Platinum being the highest level ranking.
The 88,000-square-foot, six-story building incorporates a variety of sustainable design strategies, including a courtyard that uses abundant open-air circulation to reduce energy consumption, radiant cooling and heating, underfloor air distribution, water efficient fixtures, and a rainwater collection system.
Located at the southeastern corner of the UCLA campus, Geffen Hall serves as a gateway for the David Geffen School of Medicine and the city campus as a whole. It is designed to provide sustainable environments and functional spaces for education, administration, and socialization. The building was designed by SOM while Atelier Ten provided sustainable design services for the project and facility.
