Two SOM projects have been recognized in the 2024 Fast Company Innovation by Design Awards. Terminal 2 at Kempegowda International Airport won the Transportation category “for designing a better airport experience,” while the High Line – Moynihan Connector received an honorable mention in the Urban Design category, which celebrates built projects that improve cities and neighborhoods. The annual list chronicles projects and ideas with a spark of ingenuity—something that solves a problem, improves a product, or pushes people, companies, and industries to be better versions of themselves.
Reporting on Terminal 2, Fast Company writes, “A typical airport exists to serve one very specific purpose: usher you to your gate in the most efficient way possible. But for one airport in Bengaluru, India, efficiency is the bare minimum… The architects have made sure that on top of getting to your gate efficiently, you can also relish moments of calm and delight.”
As an honorable mention in the Urban Design category, the High Line – Moynihan Connector transforms an environment dominated by cars into a safe, green pedestrian setting. The 600-foot-long elevated walkway connects the High Line, one of New York City’s most beloved public green spaces, to Moynihan Train Hall, the city’s busiest transit hub, via Manhattan West plaza with just a single street crossing.
