On September 22nd, 2016, Ellen Lou, Director of Urban Design and Planning at SOM’s San Francisco office, will participate in the lecture series “Women Speak: Four Architects on Design and Urbanism.” Organized by the advocacy group Equity by Design, and presented in partnership with The Berkeley City Club Conservancy, the series features San Francisco-based design leaders whose work promotes sustainability, historic revitalization, and urban planning.
Lou will give a lecture titled “Designing Cities: A Global Challenge.” In her work at SOM, Lou has led world-renowned urban design and planning efforts, both in the United States and in the Pacific Rim countries. Her areas of specialization include brownfield reuse, master plans for new towns and communities, historic revitalization, and campus master plans.
