As the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel continues to celebrate its 50th anniversary, Craig Hartman, SOM Senior Consulting Design Partner, will be on site to discuss how SOM created the award-winning hotel. In his presentation on Saturday, December 5th, Hartman will also share insights into the concepts and ideals embedded within Mauna Kea’s design, and how a consistent design ethos informed the global practice of SOM then, as well as today.
Located on the Kohala Coast of Hawaii, the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel was an engineering and architectural feat when it opened its doors in 1965, and it continues to serve as a model for luxury development to this day. The hotel won the American Institute of Architects’ Honor Award in 1967.
