The 2016 Modern Healthcare Design Awards have recognized the Christ Hospital Joint and Spine Center—a health care leader in the Cincinnati region—as the winner of the Silver Award. The design of building is recognized for carefully considering the hospital’s patients, visitors, and caregivers, as well as the surrounding district of Mount Auburn in Cincinnati, Ohio.
SOM worked with patients, medical professionals, and hospital staff to design the new state-of-the-art Joint and Spine Center, which opened in 2015. Inside the hospital, spaces for patients are filled with daylight, outside views are maximized to support well-being, and quiet spaces for family and staff are programmed with comfortable furnishings for conversation and rest. The building, a model for future hospitals with its flexible design and commitment to sustainability, is LEED® certified.
