Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport Terminal 2 Wins 2020 AIA Architecture Award

Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport Terminal 2, the bold, 450,000-square-foot addition to Mumbai’s airport, has been selected as a winner of the 2020 AIA Architecture Award. The program honors outstanding architecture across all typologies, and endeavors to recognize buildings that raise the bar in transformative design.

Terminal 2 is designed to serve 40 million travelers each year, nearly twice as many as the building it replaced. It combines international and domestic passenger services under one roof, optimizing terminal operations and reducing passenger walking distances. As a symbol of its city, the structure is imbued with responses to local culture—from the columns inspired by traditional Indian courtyards to the intricate jali window screens that filter dappled light into the concourses.
