The end result is a vision for the district that embodies a true live, work, learn, and play community. It enhances the four schools’ competitive edge in attracting students and faculty members while simultaneously shaping a vibrant community that respects the neighborhood’s rich history.
Today, The American Institute of Architects announced the Atlanta University Center Framework Plan has been honored with the 2022 Regional & Urban Design Award. The award program honors projects that exemplify the “best in urban design, regional and city planning, and community development”.
Just west of Atlanta’s thriving downtown sit Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College, Morehouse School of Medicine, and Spellman College, all members of the Atlanta University Center Consortium, the oldest and largest association of historically Black colleges and universities. This plan is a long-term development strategy to amplify the impact of the four schools and leverage the city’s growth to advance a vital center of Black leadership.
