After 17 years of planning and an 18-month renovation, the SOM-designed Appleton Public Library has officially reopened, unveiling a modern, light-filled space designed for the future.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony brought together local and state dignitaries, project partners, and community members to celebrate this milestone. Speakers included Library Director Colleen Rortvedt, Appleton Mayor Jake Woodford, Appleton Common Council President Katie Van Zeeland, Library Board President Margi Mann, Friends of the Library Board President Nanci Micke, SOM Senior Associate Principal Jason Fisher, and Jonathan Ballmer of The Boldt Company.
“Aesthetics, daylight, comfort, and flexibility all matter, and this library has them in abundance,” Fisher said. “But in our view, the only true measure of a great library is whether the community loves it.”
