In September of 2018, SOM Associate Director Anthony Treu participated in the Healthcare Design Forum in Park City, Utah. The forum, an exclusive event for healthcare design professionals, convenes annually to highlight the latest healthcare design issues.
Treu, SOM’s Healthcare Practice Coordinator, and other leaders from the health industry came together to discuss emergent trends and issues impacting the future of care delivery and the design of healthcare facilities. Topics included “Surviving Medicine in the 21st Century,” a detailed account of provider needs in a new era of medicine, presented by Dr. Danielle Ofri; and “Sonic Humanism,” an exploration of how sounds affect the built environment, presented by Joel Beckerman and Kevin Perlmutter.
Next up, Treu will reconvene with healthcare design professionals at the Healthcare Design Expo & Conference in Phoenix, Arizona. He will lead a panel titled “Discovered in Translation,” which explores how lessons learned from SOM’s international healthcare experience can be adapted to domestic projects. Jonathan Wetzel, Senior Director, Network Development and International Business Development, Mount Sinai Health System, and Ray Skorupa, President, Medical Planning & Research International, will join Treu. The three will discuss their work together on the design of the Almaty International Medical Center in Kazakhstan as well as other case studies.
