Three SOM projects—252 East 57th Street, Tanjong Pagar Centre, and Hangzhou Wangchao Center—were recognized in the 2018 World Architecture News Awards. Now in its tenth year, the program recognizes diverse types of projects from around the world.
252 East 57th Street was named the winner in the Tall Buildings category. The project is a 65-story luxury mixed-use tower in Midtown Manhattan. The building’s dynamic presence is shaped by its distinctive facade, with a glazing geometry that employs inversions in the exterior wall.
Tanjong Pagar Centre was a finalist in the Commercial category of the awards. Positioned as a premier quality business and lifestyle hub in Singapore, the building offers office, residential, retail, and hospitality space over a total of 160,000 square meters.
Hangzhou Wangchao Center was a finalist in the Future Projects: Commercial category. Scheduled for completion in 2021, the tower will provide office, hotel, and retail space in the growing city of Hangzhou. The tower’s expressive and distinctive silhouette is the result of an integrated architectural and engineering solution designed to meet structural, functional, and environmental criteria.
