Arcapita Mosque has won the Abdullatif Al Fozan Award for Mosque Architecture in the Best Local Mosque category. The mosque, part of the SOM-designed Arcapita Bank Headquarters, is located in Bahrain’s capital city of Manama. The project was selected out of more than 100 entries from the Gulf Cooperation Council region.
A two-level, cubic structure situated at the endpoint of Bahrain Bay, the mosque includes prayer spaces, ablution rooms, and an open courtyard that faces Mecca. A 50-meter minaret sits adjacent to the mosque.
Founded in 2011, the Abdullatif Al Fozan Award for Mosque Architecture recognizes architectural excellence in mosque engineering and construction. The 2017 award honors the innovative design of Arcapita Mosque and celebrates SOM’s project as a contemporary approach to Islamic architecture.
