Five SOM Skyscrapers Featured in CTBUH Report on Tallest Buildings in 2016

2016 was a record-breaking year in the construction of skyscrapers, according to the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH). In “CTBUH Year In Review: Tall Trends of 2016,” the nonprofit organization reports that 128 towers of 200 meters or taller were completed last year. Five projects designed by SOM are included in the report, a data-driven survey of the world’s new tallest buildings.

Beijing Greenland Center, a 260-meter tower that opened in spring 2016, is ranked as the year’s 25th tallest building. Four additional SOM projects topped out in 2016 and are slated to open this year: 252 East 57th Street, in New York; Ningbo Bank of China Headquarters; Chongqing Rural Commercial Bank Financial Building; and Tanjong Pagar Centre—which, at 190 meters, is the tallest building in Singapore and the world’s 12th tallest building in 2016.
