Lucas Tryggestad and Keith Boswell to Speak at AIA Convention 2016 in Philadelphia

At this year’s American Institute of Architects (AIA) Convention, which takes place in Philadelphia on May 19-21, SOM will present its work for the AMIE demonstration project in two events. AMIE, the Additive Manufacturing Integrated Energy project, was a collaboration between SOM and the U.S. Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). SOM designed its highly energy-efficient, 3D-printed building that produces and stores renewable power and shares energy wirelessly with a 3D-printed vehicle.

On Friday, May 20th, Associate Director Lucas Tryggestad will speak about AMIE, 3D printing, and shared energy in Architect magazine’s “Architect: LIVE” event series, hosted by Editor-in-Chief Ned Cramer. Later that day, he will be joined by Technical Partner Keith Boswell in an educational presentation called “Collaborative Partnerships for Research and Development: The Governor’s Chair.” Here, Tryggestad and Boswell will speak about SOM’s role in the Governor’s Chair for Energy and Urbanism—the collaboration with ORNL and the University of Tennessee (UT) that produced AMIE in its first year. Joining them in this presentation will be Josh Flowers from the AIA National Young Architects Forum, James Rose from the Institute for Smart Structures and UT’s College of Architecture and Design, and Roderick Jackson from ORNL’s Building Envelope Systems Research group.
