The Zhengzhou Public Realm Improvement Plan establishes a series of upgrades for the Dragon Lake New District in Zhengzhou, China. It includes safer main crossing streets in busy residential neighborhoods, public realm improvements for the Ruyi Canal South area, and design guidelines for the public realm along Ruyi Canal North corridor.
The Dragon Lake area is one of two central business districts in Zhengzhou. It is positioned as a hub for financial headquarters and offices, cultural venues, and conventions and exhibitions.
The plan emphasizes urban infill strategies to help identify the potential location of an environmentally sensitive parking structure — with green walls, stormwater management, and a garden rooftop — integrates vernacular building elements to provide facade prototypes, and proposes a new pedestrian-friendly street that includes retail, recreational, and ecological functions. Traffic-calming strategies are also applied in order to improve walkability.
