On November 24, 2014, SPUR will offer an exciting and detailed tour of the Strand Theater with SOM Design Director Michael Duncan. Participants will learn about the history of the century-old theater and what is planned for its future.
The facility is currently being transformed by SOM into a highly visible performance space for San Francisco’s preeminent theater company, American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.). In addition to educational facilities, the redefined space will house a new 300-seat theater, stage support, a public lobby, a cafe, and a 120-seat black box theater and rehearsal space.
The Strand Theater is strategically located between the city’s booming retail district and the Civic Center, in the midst of fast-growing tech and residential developments. The restored theater will represent a key component in the regeneration of this part of the city.
The tour is free for SPUR members and $10 for non-members. Participation is limited to 25 attendees.
