Having joined SOM’s Chicago studio in 1996 as an architect and structural engineer, and later moving into a project management leadership role, Michael Lingertat has leveraged his in-depth knowledge of construction, engineering, and architecture to provide an integrated, multifaceted perspective on design and constructability.

As a project manager, Mike works as an interpreter and advocate—facilitating engagement between clients and design teams, and challenging both sides from day one to opening day. From team-building to early-stage research and prototyping, and leveraging the expertise of different team members in order for a project to reach its full potential, Mike is guided by an iterative, collaborative approach to project delivery.

As designers, we are constantly challenging ourselves to create solutions that push our clients beyond their expectations. At the end of the day, the project we design will be the place where they will live, work and play. Our goal is to give them the tools and data to make informed decisions every step of the way.

Mike has successfully led multidisciplinary teams on numerous complex projects including the satellite concourses for the new Global Terminal at O’Hare International Airport and 800 Fulton Market, a mixed-use office dubbed “Chicago’s smartest building.” With experience throughout North America, Mike has a portfolio that includes large scale institutional science and healthcare facilities, urban design and transportation facilities, commercial office buildings, residential buildings, and mixed-use developments.
