SOM London Office Interiors Take First Place in Annual ASID Illinois Awards

The Illinois chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) has awarded first place to the interiors work of the new SOM London office. The award was given in the Corporate Office over 10,000-square-feet category.

Located in the landmark, SOM-designed Broadgate Tower, the 11,000-square-foot fit-out prioritizes smart design through its restrained, timeless palette and finely-tuned space utilization. Aesthetically, the contemporary palette emphasizes the striking engineering of the tower’s six structural A-frame trusses, which join to the building facade at the level of the office floor.

Flexibility and transparency define a range of workspaces. Studio desks can be arranged into multidisciplinary studios of 8, 12, or 16 in order to accommodate team expansion and contraction as the firm continues to evolve. Glass-fronted conference rooms and small breakout spaces supplement the studio space. The varying spatial arrangements, coupled with state-of-the-art AV and IT infrastructure, enable the firm to easily work with interoffice teams, other firms, and clients.

Completed in December 2013, the office recently earned a Very Good certification on the UK-based BREEAM rating scale.
