The master plan for the redevelopment of London’s wholesale fruit and vegetable market is the core element in revitalizing a key “Opportunity Area” identified in the London Plan for strategic economic growth. Conceived in collaboration with Building Design Partnership, the design was created in support of VINCI St. Modwen’s bid to become the development partner for the Covent Garden Market Association.
The plan proposes reducing the market’s footprint to release surplus land for higher density development, which will help fund the project. Several new residential towers will complement the growing skyline of tall buildings in the area, and overall the scheme will deliver nearly 3,000 new residential flats for London. Focusing on a connected and inclusive public realm, the plan provides gateways to the Vauxhall Nine Elms Battersea (VNEB) Linear Park and links to adjacent neighborhoods. It also offers a “Garden Heart” that will feature world-class restaurants, fresh food grocers, and a culinary institute.
