Design for a dynamic district
Seeking to create a nexus for the Lincoln Park community, Hines and McCaffery Interests partnered with SOM and Antunovich Associates to design a new 1.1 million-square-foot mixed-use development on the site of the former Children’s Memorial Hospital.
Adjacent to one of the city’s busiest transit corridors, and within walking distance to many cultural and performance centers, Lincoln Common adds to Lincoln Park’s vitality while incorporating a variety of building scales and architectural expressions.
The architects at SOM designed the apartment buildings with expanses of glass that ‘put all of the city right in front of you.
The development includes more than 68,000 square feet of open space, including a central plaza, landscaped gardens, and children’s play area. It also contains 105,000 square feet of retail space, two 20-story residential towers containing a total of 540 residential units, condominiums, an office building, and the adaptive reuse of a turn-of-the-century brick building original to the hospital campus.
