In conjunction with global biotech company Roche, we have developed a new strategy that combines comprehensive planning and design guidelines for Roche sites worldwide. The strategic master planning approach supports science by celebrating each site’s inherent cultural, environmental, and architectural characteristics, balancing these thoughtfully with Roche’s brand values. And for it, the project won THE PLAN Award in Urban Planning.
Together, we have developed long-term strategic plans that align development efforts and projects with Roche’s aspirations to improve quality of life for employees and deliver a unique corporate experience—emphasizing central gathering and community spaces to promote collaboration and celebrate their diverse employee culture. So far, the plan has been implemented across nine sites and informed 20 large scale capital expenditure projects, with the belief that investment into culturally specific spaces can enhance a sense of unity to create a “family of working environments.”
“These plans are a proven model for us and have now influenced hundreds of millions of dollars of investment,” said Robert Bracken, Global Head of Site Masterplanning and Asset Strategy at Roche. “All together, our portfolio of sites is now delivering greater effectiveness with improved sustainability. More importantly, our built environment is now better reflecting our unique culture and ways of working,”
THE PLAN Award is an annual international prize that honors excellence in architecture, interior design, and urban planning, providing a key platform for professionals to engage in global conversations on critical industry issues.
