The AIA Los Angeles chapter has named Associate Director Dan Herman to its 2020 Board of Directors. As a Los Angeles native, Herman has been active in the city’s architecture scene for more than 20 years. Since joining SOM’s L.A. office in 2013, he has focused his efforts on large-scale mixed-use projects, including Sunset La Cienega Hotel and Residences, 1111 Sunset Boulevard, and 100 West Walnut, currently under construction.
“This is an exciting time to help lead an organization that brings public awareness to the challenges facing cities like L.A., such as global warming, densification, and the need for more affordable housing. Architects are at the forefront of devising new paradigms for resiliency, community, open space, and connectivity, which help address these challenges.”
Herman was previously on the board of the L.A. Forum for Architecture and Urban Design (2003-2007) and the Design Review Board for the City of Glendale (2011-2013). He has also taught studio classes at the University of Southern California and served as a guest critic at UCLA, the Southern California Institute of Architecture, Woodbury University, and ArtCenter College of Design.
