Five SOM projects have been chosen as winners in the Urban Land Institute (ULI) 2019 Asia Pacific Awards for Excellence. The awards program honors projects in the region that demonstrate the highest standards of land use and strengthen communities. The five SOM projects recognized by ULI are Tanjong Pagar Centre, Nex Tower, the Knowledge and Innovation Community, Foshan Lingnan Tiandi Master Plan, and COFCO Landmark Plaza.
Tanjong Pagar Centre is a premier quality business and lifestyle hub in Singapore. It includes the tallest building in the city, and is highlighted by a large public component—a “city room” featuring public art and outdoor performance areas—and an underground pedestrian network connected to the site’s existing Mass Rapid Transit station.
Nex Tower occupies a prominent place in Manila’s resurgent business district of Makati. Connecting to the street via two points of approach, the tower offers pedestrian access to the north and vehicular access to the south. Visitors and tenants enter through a grand yet welcoming atrium lobby, with tapered white marble surfaces that terminate in a skylight at a height of 16 meters.
The master plan for the Knowledge and Innovation Community, completed in 2006, presents a vision for a hub of technological advancement and research in Shanghai. The scheme encompasses research, retail, and office space, along with cultural elements intended to create a vibrant community where new ideas can flourish and be brought to market.
SOM’s Foshan Lingnan Tiandi Master Plan respects the city’s historic core while simultaneously envisioning a more modern and sustainable city capable of supporting its growing population. The city of Foshan is one of China’s leading centers of art and scholarship, and home to important historic landmarks like Foshan Zumiao, a 900-year-old Song Dynasty Ancestral Temple.
COFCO Landmark Plaza is an office complex overlooking Beijing’s historic Temple of Earth. The open and welcoming building features an impressive 13-story glass atrium. An important economic driver for the surrounding Andingmen area, the complex attracts tenants from a variety of sectors.
