SOM is pleased to announce that Director of Urban Design and Planning Peter J. Kindel has relocated to the San Francisco office from Hong Kong. Kindel will lead the expansion of SOM’s City Design Practice studios in San Francisco and Los Angeles. In his new position, Kindel will oversee the delivery of large-scale, mixed-use master planning services in key cities and regions in the western part of North America. Additionally, he will work with the City Design Practice to expand SOM’s capacity in campus planning and technology districts.
Kindel is an award-winning urban designer who has more than 20 years of experience assisting public-sector and private-sector clients address the complexities of large-scale projects. His portfolio spans the United States and Asia. Kindel oversaw the expansion of SOM’s City Design Practice studio in Hong Kong. He has been involved with many of SOM’s large-scale projects, including the Millennium Park Master Plan in Chicago, the Bahrain National Planning Development Strategy, the Chongming Island Master Plan in Shanghai, and he developed a vision plan for reclaiming Hong Kong’s shoreline.
